Overview
Our client, a leading utilities and infrastructure engineering organisation is currently seeking an Overhead Line Network Designer to support a growing portfolio of electricity network projects across Ireland and the UK. This is a permanent role within an established design function, delivering work for both public network operators and private developers.
The Role
This position involves the design and development of overhead line networks, combining office-based design work with regular site activity. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, project teams and construction crews to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Design and development of overhead line distribution networks, or contribution to projects requiring detailed technical understanding of overhead systems
Undertake site visits, surveys and setting-out activities using GPS equipment
Engage with landowners and stakeholders to manage access arrangements and resolve on-site queries
Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports and project progress updates
Compile and maintain health, safety and quality documentation
Carry out quality assurance checks on completed construction works
Support the implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and occupational health and safety procedures
Liaise with internal teams and external parties to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and safely
Candidate Profile
Background in overhead or underground power networks, land surveying, civil, structural or mechanical engineering, grid construction or a related discipline
Relevant third-level qualification is advantageous, however strong industry experience will also be considered
Practical knowledge of overhead line design and construction is highly desirable
Familiarity with Irish distribution network standards and construction requirements is essential
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with landowners and members of the public
Proficient IT skills; experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel is beneficial
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary project team
Flexible approach to work, with a full driving licence required
Willingness to travel regularly nationwide, with occasional overnight stays as required
